Volkswagen apologizes to customers in giant full-page ad with no pictures




Volkswagen’s ads are finally owning up to the emission scandal that has roiled the German automaker over the past couple months.

In the company’s first substantive ad campaign since it was rocked by controversy in September, Volkswagen is running a stark print ad with a simple letter to its customers in about 30 newspapers around the United States including the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal .

Against a plain gray background, the ad reads in large bold type “We’re working to make things right” followed by a message from Volkswagen’s American CEO Michael Horn asking customers to be patient and touting the $1,000 in gift cards the company recently used to try to placate diesel owners affected by the scandal.
