Lecturers in the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT have urged unknown kidnappers to release their abducted colleague.

The kidnapped staff, Dr. Eebah Lebari, was reportedly abducted on the 17th of October at his residence in Mbuoba area in port Harcourt.

According to reports, Lebari was trailed from his office to his residence by his abductors who then proceeded to block him at the gate and captured him at gunpoint.

One month after the abduction, the kidnappers have not made any effort to contact the victim’s family and his colleague are worried for his safety.

While addressing the press yesterday, the UNIPORT ASUU Chairperson, Prof. Anthonia Okerengwo, condemned the act of violence and kidnap directed at lecturers.

She said its members should not be harrassed and kidnapped at will by Nigerians who may be aggrieved because of the pervading inequality, injustice and oppression in the country.

She reminded all that ASUU had been in the forefront of capacity-building by teaching millions of Nigerians and that it had also fought against injustice over the years.

While calling on both the state and the federal governments to secure the freedom of Lebari, Okerengwo said lecturers of the institution were now living in fear as they did not know who would be the next victim.
