There is a very simple, very effective way to increase your pleasure of food that doesn’t involve adding anything to the food itself.

All you have to do is breathe.

Whether it be a large fries from McDonald’s or a cut of Japanese Wagyu beef with creamed spinach and grilled oyster mushrooms, a patient and steady breathing pattern enhances your perception of the volatile, odour-producing compounds in the food, producing a richer flavour.

A study conducted by engineers, researchers and radiologists, concluded that the shape of airway redirected the compounds found in food away from the lungs and into the nasal cavity.
