Buhari_visits_blast_victimsPresident Muhammadu Buhari has stressed the need for increased vigilance among the civilian population to help ward off suicide terror attacks on soft targets around Nigeria.

The President condemned in strongest terms the barbaric suicide terrorist attacks which took place in Yola on the evening of Tuesday, November 17 and in Kano on Wednesday, causing numerous deaths and injuries among civilians.

At least 15 persons have been confirmed dead after two suicide bombers detonated their explosives at a GSM market in Kano. Fifty-three others were also injured in the attack.

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, it resembles the kind that had been carried out in the past by Boko Haram terrorists.

    ‘Not To Despair’

A Statement by a spokesman for the President, Garba Shehu, said the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Adamawa and Kano States.

President Buhari reassured Nigerians that his administration was very much determined to wipe out Boko Haram in Nigeria and bring all perpetrators of the ‘heinous crime’ against humanity to justice.

The President urged all Nigerians not to despair in the face of cowardly terrorist attacks, but to have confidence in the ability of Nigeria’s reinvigorated, well-equipped and well-motivated Armed Forces and security agencies to overcome the Boko Haram terrorists very soon.

According to him, “vigilance is a potential life saver, since security agents cannot be everywhere to deter every planned attack”.

“Citizen’s vigilance will therefore help to reduce the frequency of such attacks,” the President added.
