The Bologna archdiocese to which Guidotti is attached has distanced themselves from his views and opinions.
After sparking outrage on social media when he blamed a 17-year-old for her rape, an Italian Priest, Lorenzo Guidotti, seems to have found remorse.
The teenage victim had told the story of her rape at the hands of a North African immigrant at a train station.
Guidotti, seeing the story, went on a tirade on Facebook, claiming that the rape had been her fault.
The Inquirer reports that the priest had this to say:
“I’m sorry but if you swim in the piranha tank you cannot complain if you lose a limb,” he wrote.
According to the reports, the post which was visible to his friends alone was reportedly published by Italian website Radio Citta del Capo, going viral afterwards.
Guidotti also reportedly mocked the Italians for welcoming immigrants to the country.
“Sweetie, I’m sorry, but… you get revoltingly drunk… and then who do you go off with? A North African?
“Do you understand that, along with the alcohol, you’ve gulped down the ideological tirade about ‘welcoming everyone’?
“Darling, at this point, waking up semi-naked is the least that could happen to you.”
The Bologna archdiocese to which the priest is attached has distanced themselves from his views and opinions. Guidotti's opinions “in no way reflects that of the Church, which condemns every sort of violence,” they claimed.
At first, the priest claimed that he was not attacking the girl, but was “trying to make kids and their parents think.”
He, however, tendered his unreserved apology to the victim and her family later on after receiving unreserved condemnation for his post.
