The Coordinator of Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organisation in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State says the acceptability of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is very high.
Mr Miebi Bribena further claimed that the flag off of Mr Timipre Sylva’s campaign on Saturday, November 14, showed that the people of Bayelsa State were ready for a takeover by the APC.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mr Bribena, gave a breakdown of how far the campaign had gone in terms of preparations for the election which will hold on December 5.
He explained that the campaign, which started on November 14, began from Sagbama Local Government Area, where the incumbent Governor, Seriake Dickson, who is also contesting for a second term, is from.
“The attendance was phenomenal, the crowd was aesthetic, this wouldn’t have happened in Bayelsa State, for APC to have organised a rally in the local government of an existing Governor and over 10,000 people were in attendance.
“The people are ready for a takeover. the change mantra has come to Bayelsa,” he claimed.
The Coordinator of Sylva/Igiri campaign organisation further debunked a claim that the flag off campaign was poorly attended.
“The party hierarchy was fully represented. The person we need for the flag off, the national chairman was there with his executives. I will not categorically tell you the reasons why others weren’t there, but the flag off took place. It was successful, unprecedented and the crowd was there.
“We have gone to rallies where statements as well as comments were made. The response of the crowd at the rally was natural. There is no pretence about it.
“The elders of Bayelsa State have also endorsed Sylva,” he further claimed.
Mr Sylva was a former Governor of Bayelsa State and Mr Bribena said that during his first tenure, he executed 234 projects which included projects that were ongoing before the current Governor came in.
“Sylva’s stoppage from contesting for a second term was not the will of the people, but the forces of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party”, he said while being optimistic that the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa would be free, fair and credible.
